    Biography

    Piero Dorazio was born in Rome in 1927
    After studying painting and classical drawing, from 1945 to 1951 the artist attended Architecture Faculty and joined the Arte Sociale group, which published the one-off issues of ‘Ariele’ and ‘La Fabbrica’ In 1947 he took part in the foundation of the Forma 1 group, which drew up the Manifesto of Formalism-Forma 1, and in the same year he won a scholarship to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he resided for a year and met Gino Severini, Georges Braque, Georges Vantongerloo, Antoine Pevsner, Jean Arp, Sonia Delaunay, Le Corbousier and other important artists
    Piero Dorazio is known for his gestural paintings characterised by grids crossed by fluid, pulsating brushstrokes of colour and luminosity
    At the end of the 1940s, the artist was strongly influenced by Giacomo Balla
    In 1950, he participated in the organisation of the gallery of the Age d’Or group in Rome and Florence, and in 1952, he became a promoter of the international foundation Origine in Rome, which published the periodical ‘Visual Arts’
